Doubts around the Kansas City Chiefs have continued to grow after their recent setbacks and injury concerns. While many feel the Chiefs' dynasty may be slowing down, one NFL analyst believes the other 31 teams should not make the mistake of doubting Patrick Mahomes.
Recently, Kirk Herbstreit appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and spoke about the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes amid the growing doubts surrounding the team. His comments were later shared on X by Farzin Vousoughian, where Herbstreit said,
“I’m excited about Kansas City. I think it’s almost as if people have maybe felt like that’s the end (of the dynasty) because of the injury to Mahomes and because of some of the losses they’ve had. Is it time for Kansas City’s story to be over? Obviously, I don’t think it is. Anytime you question Patrick Mahomes, he’s gonna come out swinging.”
Last season was a tough one for the Kansas City Chiefs as the team finished with a 6-11 record, the worst in Patrick Mahomes’ time with the franchise.
The team struggled with injuries and poor performances throughout the year, and things became even worse when Mahomes suffered ACL and LCL tears during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
After their long division-winning streak also ended, many started doubting whether the Chiefs were still the same dominant team. Even with all the doubts around them, counting out the Kansas City Chiefs could still be a big mistake.
Head coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach have already shared that Patrick Mahomes is recovering faster than expected, and he even started non-contact throwing drills during the Phase 2 OTAs in May.
The team has also made several strong moves during the offseason instead of sitting back. Kansas City signed Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III and also added pass rusher R. Mason Thomas through the draft to strengthen the defense.
Even after all the doubts, counting out the Kansas City Chiefs could still be a mistake. With Patrick Mahomes recovering well and the team making important moves in the offseason, the focus has now started shifting toward the new season.
Chiefs Miss Out on Spain Game for 2026 Season
The Kansas City Chiefs were among the teams being considered for the NFL’s Madrid game during the 2026 season, but the league has now confirmed that the Cincinnati Bengals will face the Atlanta Falcons in Spain instead.
This means Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will play all of their games in the United States this year. Earlier during the NFL Draft weekend, team owner Clark Hunt had said, “There’s still a possibility that we would play in Spain.”
The Chiefs have continued to grow their international presence over the years and have already played games in Germany, Mexico, and Brazil during Mahomes’ time with the team.
Speaking about the franchise’s global push, Chiefs president Mark Donovan said, “We’ve been one of the most aggressive international teams in the league. And we’d love to play again.”
Despite missing out on Spain this season, Kansas City remains one of the NFL’s biggest global brands. Even without an international game this season, a lot of attention will still be on the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes next year.
After a difficult season, many will now be waiting to see how the team responds in 2026.
Do you think Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs can prove everyone wrong again next season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
