“His efforts on Sunday led to yet another overtime victory, pushing Mahomes' career record to 10-2 (including the playoffs) when tasked with an additional period,” analyst Matt McMullen wrote on the Chiefs' official site on September 22.
He is 8-0 in regular-season overtime and has 19 games with 350-plus passing yards and three touchdowns since 2018.
2. Kenneth Walker III leads the NFL
Walker finished with 178 scrimmage yards, including 117 rushing yards.
“Walker followed up his unforgettable debut last week with another gem on Sunday, tallying 178 yards from scrimmage,” analyst McMullen wrote.
He leads the NFL with 290 rushing yards and 369 scrimmage yards. He also forced nine missed tackles Sunday and has 23 this season.
3. Kansas City produced 523 yards
The Chiefs had 371 passing yards and 152 rushing yards in their biggest offensive showing in years.
“The Chiefs put together their most prolifically-balanced offensive attack in years,” McMullen added.
It was their first 500-yard game since Week 15 of 2022 and first 350-pass/150-rush game since 2018.
4. Travis Kelce made more history
Kelce caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
“The veteran tight end made some NFL history, too, breaking Marshall Faulk's league record for the most yards after-the-catch (6,287) since at least 1992, when the statistic entered the league record books,” McMullen wrote.
It was his 37th 100-yard game since 2016.
5. Tyquan Thornton delivered twice
Thornton finished with four catches for 86 yards and made two important third-down catches.
“Thornton made two crucial plays on Sunday that helped Kansas City win the game,” McMullen added.
He had a 45-yard catch on 3rd-and-11, then a 30-yard grab on 3rd-and-12 in overtime.
6. Jalen Royals scored his first TD
Royals found the end zone for the first time in his NFL career.
“It was a big one, too, as Patrick Mahomes – facing a fourth down – found Royals for a 1-yard, go-ahead score midway through the third quarter,” McMullen added.
Royals is one of six Chiefs to score this season.
7. The Chiefs lead the NFL in offense
Kansas City is averaging 457.5 yards per game after two weeks.
“Kansas City is averaging 457.5 yards-per-game through two weeks, which leads the NFL,” McMullen wrote.
The Chiefs have gained at least 390 yards in both games and average 32 points per game.
8. Creed Humphrey has allowed zero pressures
Humphrey has played 86 pass-blocking snaps without giving up a pressure.
“Humphrey, the consensus top center in the NFL, has lived up to that reputation through two games,” McMullen added.
He is one of seven linemen with 80-plus pass-blocking snaps and zero pressures allowed.
9. Kristian Fulton grabbed his first interception
Fulton took the ball away from Keenan Allen on a contested throw.
“Fulton showed off his strength early in the game when he ripped the ball away from Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen on a contested throw,” McMullen added.
It was Kansas City's second straight game with an interception and Fulton's first as a Chief.
10. The defense made the late stops
Kansas City needed its defense late in regulation and overtime.
“The Chiefs' defense came up clutch when it mattered most,” McMullen added.
Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Uzomah forced an incompletion on a key third down. In overtime, the Chiefs held Indianapolis to two net yards after a 50-yard completion, forcing a field goal before Mahomes led the winning drive.
Kansas City now heads to Miami for its first road game of the season.
