Reports Paint Bleak Picture For Chiefs After Top Draft Prospect's Visit

Apr 5, 2026, 1:02 PM CUT

The Kansas City Chiefs' search for a top wide receiver just hit a snag. A recent visit from USC prospect Makai Lemon has reportedly created more competition than answers.

As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, the Kansas City Chiefs are looking for a draft prospect in wide receiver Makai Lemon from the University of Southern California Trojans.

As reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Lemon visited the Chiefs on Tuesday. But landing a deal is far from reality.

Makai Lemon is one of the most popular WRs in the 2026 Draft prospects. He holds a Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of 90.8. In the last season, he rushed for 1,156 yards while scoring 11 touchdowns.

In the NFL combine, he is graded as 6.47, a good developmental prospect with an elite production of grade 91.

However, drafting a top prospect presents significant challenges.. In March 2026, Lemon visited the New Orleans Saints (8th pick).

Similarly, he is eyed upon by the Miami Dolphins (11th and 30th pick), the New York Giants (4th pick), the New York Jets (2nd and 16th pick), and the Washington Commanders (7th pick).

While the Chiefs do have a top-10 pick in the draft after ages, other teams with picks higher up the order could swoop in for Lemon easily.

The 2026 NFL draft is now around the corner, and Lemon has definitely gained enough options for himself with various NFL teams looking for a receiver.

The Chiefs are Exploring Multiple Draft Visits

The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t locking in on just one name. Once you look at the visits, the focus is clear: defense with impact. Various meetings have already taken place as part of their top-30 pre-draft visit.

Start with edge rusher David Bailey out of Texas Tech. A 92.4 PFF grade across 510 snaps tells you he’s not just active, he finishes plays.

Then there’s Rueben Bain Jr from Miami, nearly identical impact, 92.5 PFF across 707 snaps, making him an incredible addition to the defense.

On the back end, Caleb Downs brings versatility. Between Alabama and Ohio State, he logged 560 snaps with an 83.9 PFF grade. Meanwhile, the franchise had also scheduled a meeting with Arvell Reese last month.

Reese may not have the highest rating at 75.4 PFF, but a strong 7.04 prospect grade suggests upside.

Put it together, this isn’t about one pick. It’s about building depth, range, and flexibility across the defense.
