The Kansas City Chiefs could face an early challenge during offseason preparations with wide receiver Rashee Rice expected to miss voluntary OTAs (May 26-29 and June 1-3) and mandatory minicamp (June 9-11). Rice's absence could now create opportunities for young wide receivers fighting for a role in Andy Reid’s offense.
KSHB reporter Matt Foster reported that Rice tested positive for T**, violating terms tied to his probation agreement. After violating the terms, Rice has to serve 30 days in j***. This shifts the focus to who can fill in the gap.
The Chiefs currently have 12 wide receivers on the 90-man offseason roster, who can potentially become the replacement for Rice. Wide receivers like Jimmy Holiday, Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, Jason Brownlee, and Cyrus Allen, among others, are there.

However, among them, a few players stand out as possible replacements for Rice.
After earning a roster spot through a rookie minicamp tryout, Jimmy Holiday defied expectations by landing on Kansas City’s 90-man offseason roster in 2025.
He spent most of last year on the practice squad and highlighted his potential with a 50-yard preseason catch versus Chicago. Meanwhile, Holiday's size also mirrors that of Rice.
Omari Evans can also be a crucial addition because of his physical profile and skill set. With a 4.28 speed, he offers a faster profile than Rice and has more experience playing as an outside receiver in college.
Another player whom Reid can consider is Cyrus Allen. The 5-foot-11 receiver already impressed during the rookie minicamp with several strong catches.
Meanwhile, Rice’s absence may also extend beyond offseason activities, with fresh injury concerns adding to Kansas City’s growing problems ahead of the 2026 season.
Kansas City Could Be Without Rice Longer Than Expected
This is not the first time Rice has been sidelined. In 2025, he was suspended for six games due to personal conduct. However, things are different this season as Patrick Mahomes continues his recovery.
A report emerged shortly by ESPN insider Adam Schefter suggested that Rice recently underwent a cleanup procedure on his right knee, which could keep him sidelined for at least two months.
After violating terms tied to his probation agreement, Rice will be in j*** for 30-days. The concern for Kansas City centers around the medical attention and recovery support the wide receiver could miss during this stretch.
He has recorded 156 career receptions for 1,797 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns since entering the league in 2023.
With Rice’s availability in question, Andy Reid will look to rely on younger options earlier than expected before the season opener against the Denver Broncos.
