Just hours after news broke that he had gotten married to Taylor Swift, the attention on Travis Kelce shifted from his personal life to new questions about his NFL future.

As sports reporter Kerrie Jacobs-Bryant noted, the veteran tight end may be close to the end of his playing days, as his future has become a new talking point despite his return for the 2026 season.

“The 36-year-old was the subject of a myriad of retirement rumors,” Kerrie Jacobs-Bryant wrote, “throughout the course of the 2025 NFL season.”

Swift's representative confirmed to PEOPLE that the pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end were married on Friday, July 3, in a glamorous ceremony at Madison Square Garden.

According to Kerrie Jacobs-Bryant of talkSPORT, reports also said Kelce could move into TV if he decides to retire from the NFL.

For now, Kelce chose to continue his NFL career. The 36-year-old signed a one-year, $12 million deal to return to the Kansas City Chiefs, with incentives that could increase its value to $15 million.

The deal gives him another opportunity to compete for a fourth Super Bowl alongside Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

Even after returning, questions about his future are still there. He had seven straight 1,000-yard seasons before falling just 16 yards short in 2023. He fell off in the next two seasons, with 823 receiving yards in 2024, and 851 in 2025.

Those numbers have kept questions about Kelce's future alive. Combined with Mahomes' recovery from ACL and LCL injuries, the upcoming season could be an important test for the veteran tight end.

As questions around Kelce's future continue, some analysts have also started looking at who could eventually take over his role in Kansas City.

Could Noah Gray become Travis Kelce's replacement in Kansas City?

According to FanSided's Rucker Haringey, writing on July 5, the Chiefs' tight end role could change in 2026, along with talk of a potential replacement for Kelce.

"Travis Kelce remains a productive tight end for the Chiefs, but he's no longer the transcendent weapon he was in his prime," the analyst wrote. "That opens the door for another player at his position to emerge as a potential star in 2026."

With Kelce entering another season, attention has also shifted to who could step up alongside him in the Chiefs' offense.

"Noah Gray could be the guy to turn the team's tight end position into more of a timeshare,” Haringey added. “The former Duke standout lacks the ceiling that made Kelce so special, but he's a big-bodied target that could appeal to Mahomes on intermediate throws."

Whether that change happens remains to be seen, but the 2026 season could reveal how the Chiefs plan to balance Kelce's experience with Gray's growing role.

For now, both tight ends are expected to be part of Kansas City's plans heading into the new season.

Is this the final chapter for Travis Kelce, or just another season? Let us know your views in the comments.
