After missing out on the playoffs for the first time in a decade, the Kansas City Chiefs need to prove themselves again in 2026. During the Chiefs' concern podcast, former Chiefs tight end Jason Dunn, along with co-host Marcus Dash, discussed that the shift could be related to offense, defense, or special teams.
As per Dunn, position groups didn't play as well, with a certain kicker who could probably see the door if he failed to perform this season as well.
“Yeah, I’m more with you. I don’t think there’d be some major change,” Dash said on Sunday. “I don’t think Andy would be fired…maybe (Dave) Toub’s gone if (Harrison) Butker keeps missing kicks, Andy’s not going to get fired for that. But Butker probably is gone after that.”
Interestingly, Toub's tenure has been anything but concerning. The assistant head coach and special teams coordinator has been a fixture in Kansas since 2013, helping oversee impressive special teams units while playing a key role in multiple Super Bowl-winning campaigns.
Meanwhile, Kicker Harrison Butker struggled with consistency last year. In 2023, he converted 94.3% of his field goals (FGs), but he has dropped to 86.8% in 2025, including key misses.
That pressure will build on special teams coach Dave Toub and other coaches if the issues continue, especially in the kicking unit.

"I do believe that he's given a full amount of grace for maybe some bad coaching," Dunn added. "And that's for real... took (us) to five Super Bowls and won three..."
After a 6-11 season, the Chiefs are considering staff changes, while Andy Reid has conveyed his stance on a new running back department this season.
Andy Reid Shares His Impression of the New Running Back Prowess
Andy Reid is shaping the Kansas City Chiefs' offense to build a stronger attacking unit for this season.
The Chiefs have added running back Kenneth Walker III, and his early involvement in the offseason program has given Reid another option in his system.
Yesterday, Reid shared his early impression of Walker via ESPN, highlighting his attitude and work ethic.
“He’s got a ton of energy, and you can tell he loves to play the game and wants to learn what we’re doing here. He gets that it takes work to be good, and he’s willing to do that," Reid said. "Stronger than an ox. I mean, he’s put together.”
Walker has even impressed quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other teammates with his willingness to stay involved even when he is not directly part of a play.
How do you think Reid's strategy this season can make the Chiefs come back after a disappointing year? Let us know!
