As the upcoming season approaches in a few months, Patrick Mahomes is dedicated to his week 1 comeback. However, the Kansas City Chiefs’ painful 2023 loss against the Buffalo Bills haunts him and his wife, Brittany Mahomes.

After the game ended, she shortly shared her feelings about the officiating on December 11, 2023. She posted a video of a referee on her Instagram story with just one word written as “MVP.”

During the game, Mahomes connected with tight end Travis Kelce for a deep completion in the late fourth quarter. Kelce later passed the ball to wide receiver Kadarius Toney for a winning touchdown. However, officials threw a flag and ruled Toney offside for the play.

The Chiefs failed to score later, and Mahomes openly showed his anger on the sideline by throwing his helmet and arguing with officials.

Back then, the team was fighting for the AFC’s top playoff spot, but they faced a loss against the Bills with a 20-17 record in Week 14.

Speaking after the game, Mahomes admitted he struggled to process what had happened with that particular play.

"I've played seven years [and] never had offensive offside called," Mahomes said. "That's elementary school [stuff] we're talking about. There was no warning throughout the entire game.”

He even claimed officials had not warned the team about the alignment issue earlier in the game. Despite the officiating issues, the Chiefs went on to beat the Bills in the AFC Championship game and eventually won the Super Bowl against the 49ers.

As Mahomes works toward the 2026 season, the Chiefs are making sure their quarterback gets stronger protection up front.

Chiefs' Offensive Line Prepares to Protect Their 'Best Competitor'

Kansas City’s offensive line is entering the new season hoping to keep Patrick Mahomes protected and fully healthy after his knee surgery recovery.

According to Chiefs' Wire, veteran guard Trey Smith recently spoke about the responsibility the offensive line carries while protecting Mahomes throughout the season.

Smith shared his thoughts during an appearance on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.” He explained how important it is for the team to give Mahomes enough time and comfort to control the game.

“At the end of the day, I think the pressure is on us just as a team, and individually, what we can do to get better every single day," Smith said. "At the end of the day, Patrick Mahomes is the best competitor I've ever been around."

General Manager Brett Veach revealed that Mahomes is already 'ahead of schedule' in his recovery process. HC Andy Reid also stated that he 'hasn't missed a day' and discussed how nobody is spending more time than him working on himself.

How do you think Mahomes will be able to take his dominance back after coming off an injury from last season? Let us know in the comments!
