The Kansas City Chiefs are ready to make their impact in the upcoming season, with Patrick Mahomes approaching recovery well in the offseason. The most recent evidence of this has now reportedly come during the Kansas City Chiefs organized training activities.

Mahomes participated in the Chiefs’ OTAs on Tuesday after suffering ACL and LCL injuries last December, and ESPN’s Nate Taylor shared an update on the activities.

” The Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have not put out much video of his workout, of his training, obviously of his rehab. So what we see on Thursday will be the first real indication of just how much progress Patrick has made from the December 14th injury to now for the OTAs,” Taylor said on 26 May.

After his surgery, Mahomes has worked hard towards his comeback by giving 7-8 hours a day to his practice sessions. Even Head Coach Andy Reid stated that the quarterback hasn’t “missed a day." While General Manager Brett Veach called him 'Ahead of Schedule.'

“With Patrick Mahomes back on the field throwing the football to his teammates, it's another positive sign in his progress to be available and ready for the opening night game here at Arrowhead Stadium on September 14th against the Denver Broncos,” Taylor added.

The Chiefs and the Broncos have met 132 times, and Kansas City has won with a record of 73-59-0. Both teams' QBs have been recovering from injury, with Bo Nix still unconfirmed to start Week 1. Mahomes is working well in his recovery process, and Bo Nix should be ready in the field around July, as per 104.3 The Fan's James Palmer.

Mahomes has even shown positive signs on his knee injury in his appearance at the Vegas golf event by 15&Mahomies. But the challenges waiting for the Chiefs before the season opener are becoming harder to ignore.

Patrick Mahomes Faces Tough AFC West Challenge Before Season Opener

Patrick Mahomes heads into the 2026 season with more pressure than ever as the AFC West continues to grow stronger around the Chiefs.

According to KC Kingdom, the Kansas City Chiefs no longer look like the clear favourites in their division after missing the playoffs for the first time in Mahomes’ era.

While the Chiefs tried to improve key areas during the offseason, opponent teams like the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Denver Broncos made strong additions of their own.

Speaking about the Chiefs’ offseason moves, FanSided’s Cody Williams questioned the team’s decision not to add more help at wide receiver.

"Rashee Rice's off-field troubles continuing make you wonder how Brett Veach didn't do more to add to the receiving corps this offseason," William said.

The concern around Rice keeps growing after his injury recovery and legal situation created uncertainty around his availability.

That leaves Mahomes carrying even more responsibility heading into the season.

That being said, the team has added talent through players like Super-Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, but questions around depth and consistency remain a topic of discussion in terms of making their comeback.

How do you think Mahomes and the Chiefs are going to handle the pressure in the upcoming season without prioritising offence? Let us know!
