One unexpected throw at Chiefs training camp turned into a social media laugh after Patrick Mahomes joked about it himself.  Instead of dwelling on the practice mishap, the Chiefs quarterback responded with a humorous one-line caption that quickly caught fans' attention. 

On Aug. 3, the Chiefs quarterback shared a meme on X after a practice throw accidentally hit Hunter Nourzad in the neck instead of the intended target, Andrew Armstrong.

"IT SLIPPED. I JUST ATE POPCORN,” Mahomes posted on X.

The blooper from Mahomes' X post occurred during the Chiefs' Aug. 1 training camp practice. While working through a rollout drill, Mahomes attempted a pass to Andrew Armstrong, but the ball accidentally hit offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad on the back of the neck/helmet.

Nourzad was unharmed, and the session continued without interruption. 

However, the Chiefs quarterback is back on the practice field after recovering from the left knee injury he suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 of the 2025 season.

Following knee surgery in December 2025 and months of rehabilitation, Mahomes was cleared to participate fully in training camp. 

Since returning, he has been a full participant in Chiefs training camp, taking part in both 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. The quarterback has also been working on rollout throws and passes outside the pocket, with the coaching staff giving him regular reps throughout camp. 

Meanwhile, Mahomes' light-hearted response quickly caught fans' attention on X. As more people came across the post, many joined in on the joke and shared their own reactions.

Mahomes' post soon became a topic of discussion among fans on X. The reactions ranged from playful jokes to words of support, with a few critical comments mixed in.

The comment joked about Hunter Nourzad unexpectedly getting hit by the pass.

"You're fine bro. You're k******it so far," another fan commented.

The message backed Mahomes and encouraged him as training camp continues.

"Mahomes is from Texas. It wasn’t popcorn. It was brisket," one user joked.

The fan made a playful reference to Mahomes' Texas roots while adding to the quarterback's popcorn joke.

"Just goes to show we’re all human! 🤣," another fan wrote.

The comment pointed out that even elite quarterbacks can have funny moments in practice.
