Patrick Mahomes could be reunited with a familiar weapon as the Kansas City Chiefs search for wide receiver help, but one condition could decide whether Tyreek Hill returns to Kansas City. 

According to Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports, Tyreek Hill could reunite with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2026 season, but only if Hill proves he can return to form after his knee injury and the team needs more help at wide receiver. 

“I’ve maintained that some sort of reunion between Hill and the Chiefs could materialize around or after the NFL trade deadline,” Goldman wrote. " Or as Kansas City approaches the postseason.” 

NFL teams can complete trades until the Nov. 10 deadline at 4 p.m. ET.

Hill spent six seasons with the Chiefs alongside Mahomes before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2022. During that time, he became one of Mahomes’ top targets and helped Kansas City win a Super Bowl. 

However, his future with the Chiefs now depends on his recovery after suffering a dislocated knee and torn ACL in Week 4 of last season. 

“That scenario depends on the team’s situation at wide receiver,” Goldman wrote, as per A to Z Sports, “and how healthy and successful the position group proves to be throughout the year.” 

The Chiefs’ need for wide receiver help could increase the chances of a Tyreek Hill reunion. Matt Okada of NFL.com identified wide receiver as Kansas City’s biggest remaining roster need, with Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy currently leading the group. 

Additionally, Hill’s past numbers with the Chiefs show the impact he had in Kansas City. From 2016 to 2021, he recorded 6,630 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns while playing with Mahomes.

The Chiefs will have to decide if Hill’s recovery and his $30 million-plus market value make sense before making a move. If he gets back to full strength, he could still bring big-play ability to Mahomes’ offense.

For now, Hill’s health remains the biggest question around a possible return to Kansas City.

Tyreek Hill’s injury raises questions over the 2026 Season

According to a Bleacher Report analysis, NFL insider James Palmer raised doubts over Hill’s 2026 return after his serious knee injury last season.

“There still is, to my understanding, no guarantee that Tyreek Hill plays in 2026,” Palmer said as per @hbtchiefs Instagram reel. “I think it’s wishful thinking.” 

Palmer added that teams will continue to monitor Hill’s situation, but nothing appears close regarding his return. He also pointed out the severity of the injury, with Hill’s meniscus, MCL, ACL, and PCL all affected, making his recovery process more complicated. 

While Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and Tyreek's agent said the goal is for Tyreek to be ready for week one, ESPN's Adam Schefter said, "he might not be ready until midway through the season."

So, his health will be the biggest factor in a potential Chiefs reunion.
