Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt grew up surrounded by sports, but his childhood sporting memories included more than just football. Speaking on the Intersections Podcast, Hunt revealed that his love for sports started at a young age.

Hunt explained that his family often attended sporting events on weekends, including NFL and soccer games, world championship tennis matches, and even Chicago Bulls games. Growing up in that environment gave Clark an early look at the sports world.

“On the weekend, we tended to go to professional sports events,” Hunt said in an October 2025 episode of the podcast. “Whether, you know, that was a soccer game, an NFL game, maybe a world championship tennis match, and occasionally a Chicago Bulls game.” 

On the October 21, 2025, episode of the Intersections Podcast, Hunt explained his family background and their connection with sports. His father, Lamar Hunt, was deeply involved in professional sports. His mother, Norma, was also active in the community.

Hunt also carried that passion onto the field. He played football, soccer and track in high school before playing soccer at SMU, where he said he had to work hard to catch up with players who had focused mainly on soccer. 

“SMU had a great team back in those days. And in high school, I played football, soccer, and track,” Hunt said.

Hunt's childhood exposure to different sports helped shape his passion for the sports world. From NFL games to a Chicago Bulls game, those early experiences became part of the roots of his journey in sports business.

Clark Hunt's passion for sports began long before his role with the Chiefs. But now, his focus is on shaping the team's future beyond the field. 

Clark Hunt looks ahead while honoring Arrowhead’s legacy

Speaking to reporters at Missouri Western State University during the Kansas City Chiefs' Training Camp on July 30, 2026, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt shared new details about the team’s future stadium and practice facility.

Hunt said the Chiefs have selected Manica Architecture to design the new stadium and Populous to lead the design of the new practice facility. Both firms are based in Kansas City.

The new stadium is expected to hold more than 70,000 fans, with Hunt saying the Chiefs want to keep the large capacity that has long been a key part of the Arrowhead experience.

“Definitely the trend with new stadiums is to go much smaller,” Hunt said in a @KSHB 41 YouTube video. “I’ve always been proud of the capacity of Arrowhead. I think it’s one of the things that sets it apart.”

He also admitted that leaving Arrowhead Stadium will be difficult for the organization. He further added that the Chiefs will value their remaining time at the historic venue before moving to the new stadium.

Hunt's comments show that the new stadium is being planned with the Chiefs' identity in mind. While he is looking ahead to the future, he also knows how special Arrowhead has been for the team and its fans.
