Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to make progress in training camp as the team prepares for the 2026 NFL season. The Chiefs will look to rebound after missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.

With offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy away from the team, pass game coordinator Joe Bleymaier has taken on a larger role. He also offered an encouraging update on Mahomes' workload after Tuesday's practice at Missouri Western State University.

"We're not going to put any limitations on what Patrick can do," Bleymaier told reporters. "Everything's open from under center to rolling left to going right, the whole playbook. And really trying to emphasize that this is normal and this is what we do; we're out there, he's got no limitations, but that is true."

Speaking to the reporters on July 4, the comments reflect what has been visible throughout camp.

Mahomes has taken full-speed repetitions and moved comfortably inside and outside the pocket. The QB even finished a goal-line rushing play during Tuesday's practice.

For Kansas City, that's another positive sign as preparations for Week 2 continue.

Bleymaier added that Kansas City's approach isn't about changing Mahomes' style of play. Instead, the coaching staff wants to maximize the strengths of the roster around him while allowing the former MVP to play naturally.

"He (Mahomes) plays the game with his style, and you never want to take that away from him," Bleymaier said.

The coordinator also explained that getting the ball to the team's running backs through the passing game is another way to create favorable situations without limiting Mahomes' options.

With Mahomes actively participating, Chiefs now head deeper into training camp with growing confidence around their franchise quarterback.

Mahomes has continued to receive positive reviews as the Chiefs prepare for the regular season.

ESPN's Dan Graziano reported from the training camp on August 4 that the two-time NFL MVP looked "pretty d*** good" while taking first-team reps.

Graziano also confirmed that while Mahomes has continued to wear a knee brace, he has shown no hesitation rolling left or throwing off that leg during practice.

"He looks like Pat Mahomes," defensive tackle Chris Jones said. "It doesn't look like anything's changed. He's jumping around, being Pat. We've just got to get it going."

Head coach Andy Reid also offered a similar assessment, saying Mahomes is doing everything he normally would while the medical staff continues to monitor his workload.

Kansas City opens the preseason against the Los Angeles Rams on August 15 before beginning its regular-season campaign against the Denver Broncos on September 14.

The Chiefs have not confirmed whether Mahomes will play during the preseason.
