The Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2026 season with questions surrounding the receiving corps, as one NFL analyst warned that the team's Super Bowl hopes could depend on the health and consistency of its top wideouts.

Jordan Foote of Sports Illustrated believes the Chiefs' wide receiver depth is thin and also raised concerns about projected starters Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.

“The Chiefs are putting all their eggs in the basket of Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy panning out this year,” Jordan Foote of Sports Illustrated wrote. “While it might not be wise, is it possible?"

Jordan Foote of Sports Illustrated argued that the rotation of Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and Tyquan Thornton may not be enough to maximize quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ passing attack.

“The duo of Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, in particular, could make or break the floor and ceiling of this Chiefs team," Jordan Foote of Sports Illustrated wrote in his article.

He raised concerns about the depth in the WR room as the two starters were inconsistent last year, either due to suspension or injury.

Rice posted 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns for eight games played, as he was suspended for the first six games in the 2025 season.

Worthy made 14 appearances (started 13) and posted 42 receptions for 532 receiving yards and one touchdown in the last season. 

Foote believes that Rice’s production went downhill after his LCL and hamstring injury in October 2024, followed by a series of legal issues and another knee surgery earlier this May.

Meanwhile, Worthy left early in Week 1 of the 2025 season after suffering a shoulder injury, though he bounced back in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions, raising concerns about his availability.

While Thornton provides an elite deep threat with his speed, Foote believes that the rotation at WR is still uncertain, as there is thin depth behind the three fixed roster spots.

Joshua Brisco of Sports Illustrated believes the wide receiver depth battle in the training camp could prove to be one of the "compelling battles" of camp and also could decide the Chiefs' WR4 position.

The Chiefs are certainly hoping for significantly more availability from Rice and appear likely to put Thornton on the field much more consistently, but at least one receiver outside of the core three will have to play some meaningful snaps in 2026," Joshua Brisco of Sports Illustrated wrote in his article.

While Jalen Royals and rookie Cyrus Allen emerge as the primary candidates for the WR4 position, special teams returner Nikko Remigio is also in the mix for the battle for the roster position.

With questions surrounding the availability of the Chiefs' top receivers, the player who emerges from the training camp may be called upon for a much larger role than expected during the 2026 season.
