Latest Report Disrupts Chiefs' WR Plans

The Kansas City Chiefs have been planning to bring back the Tyreek Hill era. But the reunion with the former wide receiver gets put on hold. It’s the $6 billion NFL giant that is now blocking the Chiefs’ plan for Hill.
"Teams must decide how likely it is that they'll get anything close to his 2023 production, when he led the NFL in receiving yards. Could he land with Mike McDaniel and the Chargers? Los Angeles has been linked to veteran receivers early in free agency," reported Fox Sports' Greg Auman on March 28.
It's a heartbreaking moment for the Chiefs, as they were planning to sign Hill, who slipped into free agency for the first time in 10 years. Back in February, this year, Miami let go of the ex-Kansas City wide receiver to create salary cap space. In the process, they saved $22.8 million.
Hill's ties with the Dolphins ended after suffering a season-ending leg injury in 2025. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and Andy Reid spent weeks building a specific free-agency strategy around a highly familiar explosive threat.
Hill comes off as a trusted player with game-breaking speed to stretch opposing defenses. He is ideal for the Chiefs to recover from the first playoff miss since 2014.
“I don’t even know if Tyreek [Hill] is healthy right now to do anything. I’m sure he’s working hard on that part of it, trying to get all that straightened out," said Reid in February, showing heavy interest despite Hill's recovery being a mystery.
Yet, missing out on Hill feels horrible for the Chiefs. The wide receiver holds a record of receiving over 11,000 yards, 80-plus touchdowns, with an average of 13.9. With their top free-agent priority slowly slipping away to a division rival, it's time to know the backup plan.
Who will Kansas City target after Tyreek Hill?
According to the reports, the spotlight shifts toward another established veteran, free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. What makes the former Miami WR a good fit for the Chiefs?
Beckham offers highly reliable hands and a deep playoff experience of receiving 7,987 yards in 575 receptions. Being 5 feet 11 inches, he recorded an 84.7 play-off run PFF grade in the past.
Connecting Kansas quarterback Patrick Mahomes with a remarkably savvy route-runner is very important right now. Mahomes requires highly trusted targets to operate the passing game efficiently, and Beckham fits the bill.
“Free agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. has received renewed interest in recent days after his showing at Tom Brady’s Fanatics flag football game,” reported NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
The City Chiefs hold two first-round picks, No.9 and No.29. It's time to see who gets to don the red and white jersey.
