Kansas City Chiefs' Might Lose 2x Super Bowl Winner Amidst $6.3 million Problem

The Chiefs are facing a tough decision with a $6.3M over the limit that can cause a team to lose two time super bowl winner, who is likely to join the Top NFC team soon.
Kansas City restructured the contract of Patrick Mahomes by releasing more than $43M in cap space and letting go of players like Shane Buechele and Mike Danna.
However, the team is still far from becoming compliant with a few days left for the NFL league year to start, and they might have to let go of Jaylen Watson.
ESPN Analyst Schatz stated, "Watson is a talented corner with the size (6-2, 197 pounds) to press and the awareness to play zone coverage. He had a phenomenal coverage DVOA in six games in 2024, then was above average (40th out of 98 qualifying) in a full season in 2025.”
For the Kansas City Chiefs, having Watson has been a major part, with his last season performance 42 solo and two interceptions. His ability to stop the top receiver is a major reason why the Chiefs' secondary has been so hard to beat.
If Watson chooses the Rams over the Chiefs, it would have a major impact on the Chiefs' defensive line-up. Replacing a cornerback with his playoff experience and reliable stats as a young and energetic player is going to be difficult for the Chiefs, which could even weaken their chances of winning in the upcoming season.
Why Jaylen Watson Could Be a Game-Changer for the Rams
The Rams are looking for talented cornerbacks who can help their defence return to elite status, with last year a pass defence that allowed over 3,900 yards.
Watson is a perfect match because physical defender who has already proven to be on the biggest stage. His experience in high-pressure playoff games would provide a major improvement.
By joining the Rams, Watson will bring reliable skill to their defensive backfield.
To be known for his ability to break up passes and tackles well in open space, which are two things that the Rams currently need. Adding a two-time champion like Watson could be one of the missing pieces that help Los Angeles compete for another Super Bowl title.
