Kansas City Chiefs Emerge as Top Contenders to Sign Kenneth Walker

Feb 11, 2026, 1:17 PM CUT

After a rare failed season, the Kansas City Chiefs are already planning to come back stronger. And their solution is a Super Bowl MVP. Reports indicate the Chiefs are in the running to sign Kenneth Walker III.

Walker was in the final year of his rookie contract, and given his MVP award, he's getting a big contract.

The 2025 Super Bowl MVP scored five touchdowns for 1,027 yards and made 221 carries across the season. On Sunday, after his performance against the New England Patriots, he became the eighth 100-yard rusher.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, had an abysmal year and ended with a 6-11 record. They were third in the AFC West and did not even qualify for the postseason.

And a poor running back roster was the determining factor. The Chiefs managed only 1,812 yards per game and ranked 25th overall in the league this year.

Kareem Hunt, the lead rusher, contributed 611 yards, followed by Isaiah Pacheco with 422 yards. And the Chiefs have struggling in this regard for years now. Now, with both players leaving, the team needs a replacement.

And They Might Have Already Taken Interest

In an X post, Chiefs’ offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz not so subtly tried to claim Walker for his team.

“So, uh, Walker is a free agent right? Just asking, no specific reason,” he had asked.

Other than Walker, the New York Jets’ Breece Hall is also an option. But the Chiefs are looking to draft a new running back. 20-year-old Jeremiyah Love of Notre Dame is a 2026 draft prospect.
