The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the NFL's most successful franchises. And now, aggressively expanding their international footprint while positioning themselves as a global business model, according to a report by the Financial Times.
The effort is being led by the Chiefs’ president, Mark Donovan. He believes the franchise's success on the field has created opportunities far beyond football.
"Continue to grow our brand presence internationally and to operate a business that is seen as a model for other sports and entertainment companies," Donovan told the Financial Times.

His comments offer a glimpse of how Kansas City views its future. Apart from winning games, the franchise is looking to expand its reach through international marketing and major global events.
Kansas City has won three Super Bowls since 2020. After the Super Bowl run, the Chiefs became one of the NFL's best-known brands behind stars such as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
The president also made it clear that the organization's success has accelerated those ambitions.
"We also think that there are so many opportunities that our success has brought to us," Donovan said. "It's great that we're one of the most aggressive international expansion teams in the NFL, constantly looking for ways to grow."
The franchise's growth has already seen major financial boosts. According to Forbes, the Chiefs were valued at approximately $6.2 billion in August, 2025. The growth reflects the organization's rise both on and off the field.
Donovan's remarks show how the Chiefs are planning to capitalize on the team’s success for long-term business growth. While international expansion remains a major focus, the organization's ambitions extend well beyond overseas marketing.
Chiefs View World Cup and New Stadium as Major Growth Opportunities
Mark Donovan played a key role in helping the Chiefs secure six matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This move can be huge for Chiefs fans, as the event is expected to bring thousands of visitors.
The franchise has also ventured into the entertainment world and launched Foolish Club Studios. The studio is an in-house production company designed to expand its presence in entertainment.
The organization is also moving forward with plans for a new $3 billion domed stadium in Kansas to host major events.
"It's a massive opportunity for our organisation and our region," Donovan said. "By building this world-class domed stadium, we're going to bring so much more opportunity to the entire region, not just Chiefs games."
The Chiefs are focusing on hosting big events, including Super Bowls, Final Fours, and other international competitions, and thinking beyond the traditional NFL business model.
