The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to rebuild after a disastrous 6–11 season, and fans are calling for a reunion with free agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Miami Dolphins released Hill in February 2026 to save cap space after a major knee injury in Week 4 ended his 2025 season.
With the Chiefs' current receivers struggling and Patrick Mahomes returning from his own injury, bringing back a familiar face could be the spark the offense needs.
On FS1’s First Things First, analyst Nick Wright supported the idea, noting that even a recovering Hill is better than most athletes.
“I think there’s a lot of evidence that he has not been the best guy. I’m also not going to lie and act like his time with my team wasn’t some of my greatest sports memories," Wright stated.
Tyreek Hill started his NFL career in 2016, when he was picked by the Chiefs in the fifth round. During his time with the franchise, he quickly established himself as an elite wide receiver and won a Super Bowl. After moving to the Miami Dolphins in 2022, he remained elite, delivering two massive seasons.
Wright further observed, "I think he’s definitely worth a flier… Tyreek Hill, at his peak, was the single-best athlete in the NFL. Post that injury, if he can be 80% of that, that’s still a plus athlete. If he’s going to play football next year, I would imagine it would be for the Chiefs.”
However, Hill's recent years have been difficult. In 2024, his stats dropped significantly. He also fell short of 1000 receiving yards. Following this, a major injury ended his tenure at the Dolphins in 2025.
Hill is still recovering, which has made other teams hesitant to sign him. But with the Chiefs, things might be different.
The Chiefs Can Also Target The Atlanta Falcons Star Before the 2026 Season
Rumors from multiple sources suggest that the Atlanta Falcons might trade their star tight end, Kyle Pitts. For those wondering why, the answer is simple. Atlanta is short on draft picks and needs to find ways to build for the future.
On the other side, several top teams are looking for a rare athlete who can change the game, placing Pitts at the very center of current trade discussions.
Kyle Pitts, age 25, is coming off a strong season where he recorded 928 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Even with an unsettled contract, his rare combination of size and speed makes him a valuable asset.
The Chiefs are looking to build a strong roster this season by picking players like Peter Woods and Mansoor Delane.
Moreover, as Travis Kelce enters the later stages of his legendary career, the team is reportedly searching for a successor who can maintain their explosive offense.
Trading for an athlete like Pitts would give Patrick Mahomes a dangerous new weapon and provide the Falcons with the draft picks they desperately need to rebuild their roster.
