A former NFL quarterback has named New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs as a potential target, while the Kansas City Chiefs are once again linked to the four-time Pro Bowler.

During the appearance on the ‘4th and 1 Podcast’, Cam Newton discussed the situation of the wide receiver room and provided a reason why he believes Diggs can be a fit for the Chiefs.

“Speaking of opportunity, if you were to ask me what I think about it, Mr. Andy Reid, brother, go out there and get Stefon, brother, because you’re talking about business, brother..,” Newton said on Friday.

The Chiefs lack receiving corps depth as WRs like Rashee Rice will be unavailable for the training activities due to unforeseen circumstances, while JuJu Smith-Schuster is set to join the New York Giants after attending their Monday workout.

“A star that took over the NFL in 2024 was who? Taylor Swift took over the NFL in 2024", Newton added. " Who took over the NFL in 2025? (Cardi B) You got two shooting stars, that would be good for business, brother.”

The reference was to Super Bowl LX, between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, which recorded about 125 million average viewership over the different platforms, where Rapper Cardi B made her appearance during the halftime show to support her boyfriend, Diggs

Beyond the off-field buzz, Diggs showed last season that he can still be a productive weapon. The veteran wideout played a key role in New England's run to Super Bowl LX, hauling in 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while starting all 17 games for the AFC champions.

At 32, Diggs continues to prove he has plenty left in the tank, which is exactly why links to Kansas City refuse to go away.

But as teams look for wide receiver options, Stefon Diggs is now even linked with the Patriots in trade conversation for A.J. Brown.

A.J. Brown Trade Puts Stefon Diggs' Role in Context

The New England Patriots initially planned for Stefon Diggs to be their main receiver, but the team has now traded for Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown.

Diggs arrived with the expectation of becoming Drake Maye’s top target. He showed efficiency when he played, starting every game last year, where he contributed four receiving touchdowns for 1,013 yards.

"Diggs remains a free agent as the NFL calendar turns to June, and he looms in an interesting way," Sporting News Billy Heyen had written on Monday. "As the Patriots appear to close in on a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for star wideout A.J. Brown."

The deal reflects a bigger change in the Patriots’ plan, as they send a future first-round pick in 2028 and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia to complete the move.

Brown brings proven production and consistency. He has recorded six 1,000-yard seasons in his seven years in the NFL.

The team is likely to expect him to become Maye’s main target on key plays, which could shut the door on any chance of re-signing Diggs. This is where the Chiefs could come in.
