ESPN's analyst Bill Barnwell recently named Josh Allen as his projected quarterback for the 2020s All-Decade first team. He still mentioned Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson as players who could challenge that choice.

“Allen would be the quarterback on the All-Decade first team if it were to be released tomorrow, although there would be at least some debate about instead awarding it to Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes,” ESPN’s Bill Barnwell wrote on August 6.

The Chiefs are 4-0 against the Bills in the postseason with Mahomes and Allen leading their teams. Kansas City has won the AFC four times since 2020, and two of those trips ended with a Super Bowl win.

"There should be no other Quarterback in the conversation besides Patrick Lavon Mahomes II," Chiefs Capital posted on Instagram on August 8.

Allen has 291 total touchdowns in the regular season and playoffs since 2020, which is 48 more than Mahomes.

Mahomes has thrown fewer turnovers during that stretch and holds the edge in cumulative dropback EPA. The two quarterbacks are tied in EPA per dropback.

Both quarterbacks have won an MVP during the decade, but their playoff records against each other are hard to overlook, according to A to Z Sports.

The debate soon moved beyond the numbers, with fans weighing in on ESPN's decision to put Allen first.

ESPN's projection quickly got fans talking, with many pushing back on their idea of putting Josh Allen ahead of Patrick Mahomes.

“Mahomes is on a whole other level over Allen. There is no debate,” a fan commented on the same Chiefs Capital post on Instagram on August 8.

A few fans pointed to what Mahomes accomplished in the postseason.

“What a joke! Please compare playoff wins, Super Bowl appearances, and Super Bowl wins and tell me if Josh is better,” another fan commented.

Fans also trolled the ongoing comparison between the two quarterbacks.

“Another hypothetical victory for Allen over Mahomes,” a fan wrote.

The reactions come as the debate continues to grow around Allen's recent production.

“Josh Allen is the single hand most overrated player in the history of the NFL,” another fan added.

Another reaction was directed toward ESPN's decision.

“This has gotta be the most brain-dead take ever,” a fan wrote.

Mahomes and Allen remain at the center of one of the NFL's biggest quarterback debates, and ESPN's debate has only added another chapter to it.
