Tyreek Hill once got a close look at a side of Patrick Mahomes that changed the way he viewed the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. A resurfaced clip from Hill’s 2024 appearance on “The Pivot” podcast is now making the rounds again, with more than 500,000 views after Josh Chambers shared it on X.
Hill remembered a stretch when Kansas City’s offense was struggling and several of its biggest names were not playing well. Mahomes responded by bringing the entire offense together and calling out his top weapons, including Hill, Travis Kelce, Demarcus Robinson and Sammy Watkins.
“Pat a different dude, and I’m going to tell you how he’s a different dude,” Hill said on the podcast.

The former Chiefs receiver said Mahomes did not hold back during the meeting. Hill also recalled Mahomes telling him, “Reek, you think you so (expletive) fast, but you can’t catch the damn ball. And you want to be the best receiver in the game?”
“This dude called the whole offense up. He called us all up. This was like on a Tuesday, I believe. He called us all up. He cussed all of us the (expletive) out,” Hill said on the podcast, according to Chiefs Capital.
Hill said the moment earned his respect because Mahomes addressed each player directly rather than avoiding the biggest names on the roster. That confrontation changed Hill’s mindset, and he said the Chiefs started “getting things rolling” in the following game.
“Me and Pat, we go back and forth, but that was a moment right there where he stood on business. And it was like, bro, I really respect this because he really just called out all his weapons individually,” Hill added.
The story has resurfaced as Mahomes continues his return from the torn ACL and LCL that ended his 2025 season.
After throwing for 184 yards in Week 1, he responded against the Indianapolis Colts with 382 yards and three touchdowns while completing 68% of his passes.
Mahomes also showed confidence in his reconstructed knee, scrambling when needed and connecting with Tyquan Thornton for gains of 45 and 30 yards, the latter coming in overtime.
Kansas City improved to 2-0, while the old story offered another look at the leadership style that once left Hill thinking differently about his former quarterback.
Hill and Mahomes shared plenty of big moments in Kansas City. Years later, one of those plays resurfaced with Thornton.
Did Patrick Mahomes just recreate a memorable Chiefs moment?
Patrick Mahomes and Tyquan Thornton gave Chiefs fans a familiar moment in overtime against the Indianapolis Colts. Their 30-yard connection looked a lot like the “Wasp” route Tyreek Hill made famous during Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIV comeback against the San Francisco 49ers.
Thornton later revealed that the play was something he had worked on many times since joining the Chiefs’ practice squad two seasons ago.
“You can see that thing on Madden, for sure,” Thornton said, according to the Athletic’s Jesse Newell.
The original Wasp came with Kansas City trailing 20-10 in the fourth quarter.
Facing third-and-15, Mahomes went to the sideline and asked then-offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy if they had time to run it. Hill sold an over route before cutting back toward the sideline and helped spark the comeback.
Thornton used a similar idea against Indianapolis. He sold the inside route, gave safety Kapena Gushiken a shoulder shake and broke free before taking a big hit while making the catch.
Andy Reid later praised Thornton for making two tough catches with defenders “all over him.”
With Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice also in the mix, the Chiefs will need more big plays from their receivers as the season continues.
