The Kansas City Chiefs finished Phase III of their offseason program. The OTAs and minicamp provided an early look at standout players on the roster.

Let's take a look at rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen and five others who showed good form heading into training camp.

Cyrus Allen

Cyrus Allen quickly stood out in passing drills during minicamp. Between Day 1 and Day 2, he caught a good number of passes in teamwork, showing sharp route-running skills in head coach Andy Reid’s system.

He also got some 7-on-7 reps with Patrick Mahomes, which is rare for rookies this early. It shows that the coaches are already trusting him in limited but important situations.

Chris Roland Wallace

Chris Roland-Wallace has been one of the most active defensive players in these offseason sessions.

During OTAs and minicamp, he has been regularly involved in pass breakups, especially in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills. He has looked sharp while reading plays and reacting quickly to the ball.

Wallace showed promise as a rookie in 2024 and in 2025 before his season-ending injury. The now-recovered player looked quite consistent during the 2026 minicamp.

Jalen Royals

Jalen Royals did well in red-zone drills during minicamp, as he made a strong touchdown catch over defenders with good control.

He followed it with another leaping touchdown grab from Patrick Mahomes, keeping awareness to get both feet down near the left pylon. Mahomes also reacted with praise, saying “Good catch, 11.”

Royals looks comfortable in tight end-zone situations. That is an ability that could help him in scoring roles if he carries it into training camp.

Kahlil Benson

Kahlil Benson is part of a right tackle battle for the Chiefs. He has been rotating in during offseason reps and getting steady chances in practice.

According to HC Reid, Benson has handled everything asked of him so far. That is a good sign for a rookie adjusting to NFL speed and system demands.

Even though the competition is open, Benson has not looked out of place. If he keeps improving, he may stay in the mix for a role and push for a 53-man roster spot after training camp cuts in August.

Nohl Williams

A big cornerback role in Kansas City needs to be filled, and Williams is fitting in well. He caught an interception by Patrick Mahomes on Day 1 of minicamp and executed multiple pass breakups in the same practice.

He said, “It’s a good play, but onto the next. You’ve got to do it again; you’re only as good as your last.”

He stayed active in coverage and looked more confident in the system.

Andrew Armstrong

Andrew Armstrong is a 6-foot-3, 202-pound receiver. At Arkansas, he had 78 catches for 1,140 yards and led the SEC in receiving yards.

In minicamp, he made a catch that caught Patrick Mahomes’ attention, showing strong hands and physical play. His size fits a true outside “X” receiver, but his roster chance will also depend on special teams.

These OTAs and minicamp sessions showed early signs from several Chiefs players. Now, training camp will decide who can keep this form when things get tougher.
