The Kansas City Chiefs have made a calculated move after the 2026 NFL Draft, adding depth and long-term stability to the offensive line with a significant guaranteed contract.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Chiefs signed undrafted free agent Pete Nygra, offensive lineman from Louisville, to a $260,000 guaranteed contract on April 26.

“Former Louisville OT Pete Nygra is signing with the Chiefs on a deal that includes $260,000 guaranteed, per source,” Pelissero wrote.

The signing came during the league’s fast-paced post-draft rush, when teams compete to grab top players who went undrafted this year. To make sure they landed Nygra, the Chiefs offered him a six-figure guaranteed contract.

The Chiefs offered Nygra a three-year contract worth about $3.1 million, standard for all UDFAs. The contract follows the CBA structure, with his base salary starting around $885,000 in the first year and increasing over time.

However, most of that money depends on whether he makes the final 53-man roster.

Joining a rookie group that includes key undrafted signings like Jaydn Ott and Xavier Nwankpa adds depth and competition to the Chiefs' offensive line this season.

According to Sports Illustrated, he started all 13 games at Louisville, allowing one sack and 12 pressures in over 460 pass blocking snaps in 2025. In the previous season, he again allowed just one sack with 16 pressures.

As a two-time team captain of the Cardinals, he brings leadership and reliability, adding depth in front of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Chiefs' UDFA Pool Includes Caldwell, Ott, and Phillips as Camp Competition

The Kansas City Chiefs have wrapped up their draft, but attention has quickly shifted to their undrafted free agents competing for the remaining roster spots ahead of the new season.

According to AtoZSports, wide receiver Jeff Caldwell from the Cincinnati Bearcats football stands out for his size and catch radius.

At 6 feet 5 inches and 210 pounds, he offers a strong target in contested situations and could add depth to the wide receiving group, if he performs consistently in training camp.

The Chiefs also signed running back Jadyn Ott from the Oklahoma Sooners. Ott brings a physical running style that fits Kansas City’s offensive approach. He recorded 2,665 rushing yards with 30 total touchdowns during his four-year collegiate career.

On defence, the Chiefs signed cornerback Bryce Phillips from San Diego State Aztecs. Phillips adds depth to the Chiefs' secondary defense. He recorded an overall 100-plus solo tackles, and eight pass breakups and one interception last season.
