Even when on the field, many players carry their parents' hopes and dreams with them. Pick no. 29, Peter Woods, though, carries his father quite literally, with a very special tattoo to show for it.

When talking about being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, he spoke about the special tribute to his father. On the Chiefs' official website, the tackle revealed the inspiration behind his tattoo.

"My family is the reason that I get up every morning and want to go get it," Woods said in the video. "This tattoo here is a portrait of me and my dad...On the tattoo is Deuteronomy 6:6-7.... It's basically a verse just talking about training up your child...That's just playing homage to my dad, instilling all these factors in me. That's made me such a great man."

Woods was a first-round pick for the Chiefs this year, playing on the D-line with flexibility. The Clemson product comes with three years of college experience.

Over his three years in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), he totaled 14.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles.

For Woods, family comes first. The 21-year-old made this clear later in the video as well, speaking about watching the NFL Draft together over the years.

"I always watch the draft with my family...like it was a Super Bowl," Woods further said. "It was just so personal, it was just so inspirational. It felt like every year we would talk about, hey, that's going to be you in 10 years. Next thing you know, this is me now....It's a dream come true."

From watching the NFL Draft over a decade to hearing his name called out, Woods has certainly come a long way. However, the journey is just beginning for him.

With the OTAs around the corner, there's a lot of chatter about the expectations from the franchise. Surely, Woods would want to hit the ground running and make an impression on star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Will Patrick Mahomes Feature in the Upcoming OTAs?

Buzz is already building around the upcoming Kansas City Chiefs OTAs as the franchise prepares for its first real on-field glimpse of the 2026 roster.

The next phase of the offseason program begins May 26 with six OTA sessions scheduled before mandatory minicamp in June. This training period is important not just for prospects like Peter Woods, but for Kansas' star signal-caller as well.

Mahomes tearing both his ACL and LCL in mid-December naturally made a Week 1 comeback feel like a long shot at first. But every update coming out of Kansas since then has continued trending positively, with general manager Brett Veach recently delivering another message.

“Needless to say, he’s way ahead of schedule,” Veach said of Mahomes. “I think the biggest challenge that we’re going to have is protecting him from himself."

For most fans, the OTAs would not be as important as Mahomes starting the Week 1 game in September. With reports revealing the quarterback is working on his recovery 7-8 hours daily, the feeling seems positive.
