Chiefs Report Reveals HC's Commanding Decision To Aid Patrick Mahomes' Recovery

Andy Reid has taken an unusual hands-on route with Patrick Mahomes’ recovery, one that is quietly reshaping the rehab process. The Athletic's Jesse Newell recently shed light on exactly what that looks like.
"When he talks about 'Hey, Patrick is hitting this thing hard, I see him there all the time' he's saying that because he's sitting on the training table next to Patrick Mahomes getting his knee rehab done," Newell told talkSPORT.
Last year, Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Eventually, that loss went on to end the Chiefs' 10-season postseason streak.
Since December, though, Mahomes has come a long way. Recently, it was revealed that he has spent almost seven hours each day at the facility under athletic trainer Julie Frymyer since January. Reid has accompanied him throughout the entire duration of that time.
According to the TalkSport report, Reid even found room for humor amid Patrick Mahomes’ rehab grind.
Joking about the process, he revealed that athletic trainer Julie Frymyer “warms up” working on Mahomes before turning her attention, and the pressure, onto Reid’s own knee, a light moment in an otherwise intense recovery stretch.
This small detail shows just how involved Reid is in Mahomes' daily recovery.
As the draft date nears, the franchise will look to add depth to its roster ahead of the 2026 season.
Chiefs' Double First-Round Punch Puts Them Ahead Of Raiders In Draft
The Chiefs are already making changes to the roster around Mahomes while he heals. The Chiefs have two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft: No. 9 and No. 29.
With two first-round picks, the Chiefs can target both a cornerback and an edge rusher to reinforce their defense.
These are their two most important needs. Avieon Terrell fills the cornerback gap right away. He managed 125 tackles for Clemson in total, with almost half (58) coming in 2024
Zion Young is a great edge rusher for the Chiefs because he has the length and motor they need to fix their pass rush.
Blake Miller, an offensive tackle, is another interesting option. He looks like a reliable starter who can protect Mahomes.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, it is all coming together at the right time. With Patrick Mahomes grinding through recovery alongside Andy Reid and the front office loading up for the 2026 NFL Draft, the message is clear: Kansas City is not waiting around.
