Chiefs Projected to Challenge Patriots for Elite Eagles Receiver

The Kansas City Chiefs are in clear need of a top-tier wide receiver to strengthen their offense, and a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles can help them achieve their goal.

According to Bleacher Report's writer Kristopher Knox, the Chiefs and the New England Patriots can both participate in a trade for the three-time All-Pro wide receiver, A.J. Brown.

“Look, there's certainly no guarantee that the Eagles will trade wideout A.J. Brown. However, things appear headed in that direction. The receiver publicly voiced his frustrations with the team in 2025, and the Eagles have engaged in trade discussions involving him,” Knox wrote.

Even though the Chiefs drafted Cyrus Allen in the fifth round, it doesn’t fix their WR issue for the upcoming season. Therefore,  Brown leaving the Eagles could help their offense, but the Patriots remain a potential suitor for Brown's talent.

“According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a trade with the Patriots is ‘on the table’ and is 'tracking to happen' on or after June 1. Of course, there's time for another receiver-needy team to get involved since the Eagles aren't going to move Brown before then,” Knox added.

The calendar dictates everything regarding the 28-year-old star's future. Releasing Brown before June 1 would cost Philadelphia $20.1 million in dead cap. However, trading him after that specific date saves the Eagles $7 million.

The Eagles are projected to trade him because of his strained relationship with the team after his public complaints during the 2025 season.

Despite his strong performance of recording 78 receptions and 1,000-plus receiving yards, the front office sees him as a growing locker room issue.

With rookie Makai Lemon already drafted as a potential replacement, the Eagles are in a position to move Brown and gain future draft picks in return. Even if the Chiefs' plans don't go their way, they have a backup ready for their future.

Chiefs’ Backups If Brown's Trade Falls Through

If the A.J. Brown trade doesn’t come through, the Kansas City Chiefs still have a few familiar and realistic paths to improve their wide receiver room.

According to a report from Arrowhead Pride, one of the strongest options in this situation is Tyreek Hill. A potential reunion with Hill makes it valid because of his history with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Hill has spent six seasons with the Chiefs, winning Super Bowl LIV in 2022. He has an overall record of 11, 363 receiving yards with 819 receptions and 83 touchdowns. According to ESPN’s Nate Taylor, there is '60% chance' of Hill's return with the Chiefs.

Another potential option is JuJu Smith-Schuster. He remains a familiar option for the team and is valued internally for his reliability in short and intermediate routes.

Smith's understanding of the system and past connection with Mahomes makes him a 'go-for-it option' if the Chiefs choose continuity over a big trade move.

Among all of these wide receivers, who do you think is going to be their favorite choice? Let us know in the comments!
