The Los Angeles Rams are a player down, it seems. Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson might miss out on the upcoming season, and in his absence, Wanya Morris could be the perfect replacement.
An unforeseen incident has now left the door ajar for offensive tackle Wanya Morris. The Kansas City Chiefs player had already mutually requested a trade, and if things play out well, Los Angeles will be his new home.
"Morris could fit that need with experience at both left and right tackle," Charles Goldman of AZ Sports wrote. "He hasn’t been a superstar during his time in Kansas City, but working with a new coaching staff could be exactly what he needs to unlock his potential.
Initial reports of a mutual exit came directly from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
"The Chiefs and OT Wanya Morris have agreed to explore trade options, per sources. Morris, who has 16 starts in three seasons (11 in 2024), would like the chance to play more, and Kansas City has tackle depth," Morris shared on his X handle.
If the trade happens, the Chiefs would save money of around $1.48 million against the cap while incurring $226,064 in dead money. Morris' decision to switch teams may have resulted from his decline in form.
When Morris joined Kansas, he started with 1,139 offensive snaps. His debut saw him log 339 snaps along the offensive line. He bettered it the following year with 734 snaps in 2024. However, his form dipped last year as he merely managed just 66 snaps in the 2025-26 season.
Now, a new opportunity beckons, which might be a good change since the Chiefs already have their starting tackle players in place.
Two Key Players Projected to Land a Starting Tackle Role for the 2026 Season
Wanya Morris was part of the exclusive Kansas squad that was part of the Super Bowl LVIII. He got drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft. Yet his career did not see him reach the heights he intended.
Naturally, the decision to part ways was the next step. The news that Kansas was willing to trade Morris coincidentally came on the date of their mandatory OTAs.
Looking at Kansas City's current tackle situation, it's hard to see Morris finding an increased role.
"At this point in time, Morris occupies one of the two backup tackle positions on the team, acting as insurance for left tackle Josh Simmons and right tackle Jaylon Moore," Daniel Arwas of Heavy.com writes.
Simmons and Moore are projected starters, and former undrafted free agent Esa Pole is an intriguing prospect.
Then there are Ethan Driskell and Chukwuebuka "Jason" Godrick, who are also expected to be a part of the starting roster.
Opportunities became scarce, and thus Morris needed an exit. Jackson's latest news has now turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Morris, who could soon be switching sides.
