The Kansas City Chiefs have taken the first clear step toward building their new $300 million football base in Olathe, Kansas.
On July 16, the team brought Burns & McDonnell into the project as it prepares to turn its long-term plan into a working home for players and staff. The announcement gives the Chiefs a company that will help keep the project organized from its early stages through completion.
“We are extremely excited to have Burns & McDonnell join our project team as owner’s representative for our new practice facility and headquarters that we will be building in Olathe,” the team’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, Matt Kenny, said, via press release as per Chiefs.com.
Burns & McDonnell will work beside CAA ICON and team officials, bringing together the different groups needed to move the facility from plans on paper to an operating headquarters.

The company will help the Chiefs manage the project from start to finish. And it will work with designers, engineers, and builders while tracking costs and deadlines. It will also help solve any problems that may come up during the work.
“We are honored to partner with the Kansas City Chiefs on this transformational project,” Jon Wright, senior vice president and general manager of the Buildings Market at Burns & McDonnell, said as per the Chiefs.com. “The Chiefs have had an extraordinary impact on our region for generations, and this investment represents an exciting new chapter for the organization and the Kansas City community.”
However, the new Chiefs facility will be built on about 155 acres in Olathe, near College Boulevard and Ridgeview Road. Meanwhile, the team plans to have its new practice facility and headquarters ready before the 2031 season.
Chiefs see billions in potential impact from Kansas plans
The Chiefs believe their move to Kansas could have an economic impact far beyond football.
Last December, the Chiefs announced plans to build a new $3 billion stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, with an opening in 2031.
“This once-in-a-generation project – which is really four projects in one – offers a truly transformational impact for the State of Kansas and the entire Kansas City region,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said, as per Heavy.com. “This project has real short-term and long-term benefits, and we are excited about what we will be building together over the next five years and beyond.”
The move also includes a $300 million practice facility and team headquarters in Olathe, giving the franchise new places for both games and daily football work in Kansas.
A study released in connection with the project estimates that building the team’s new stadium and other planned sites could generate billions of dollars in activity across the region.
The study placed the total one-time investment at $4.5 billion and estimated an overall impact during the construction period of $8.4 billion.
The Chiefs believe the building work could create over 30,000 jobs and bring in billions of dollars for workers and the state.
After the new stadium opens, the team expects fans, events, and visitors to keep adding major money to the Kansas City area every year.
