The Kansas City Chiefs received a positive update on two of their wide receivers after both Xavier Worthy and Cyrus Allen left Saturday’s practice early with injuries. Andy Reid has now provided the latest timeline for their return.
Speaking after Monday’s first padded practice of training camp, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed that Worthy is dealing with a shoulder sprain, while Allen suffered a bone bruise in his shin.
Reid said both receivers are expected to return soon, but their recovery will depend on how their bodies respond over the next few days.

“Xavier has a shoulder sprain; it'll be a few days for that, Reid said in a @KCTV5 News YouTube video. “We'll see how that goes.”
On Allen’s injury, Reid explained that the rookie’s return will depend on reducing the swelling in his shin.
“They gotta get the swelling out of there,” Reid added. “So however many days it takes to get the swelling out.”
Worthy suffered the injury during Saturday’s practice after making a catch near the end zone in an 11-on-11 drill. He landed on his right shoulder, the same shoulder he had previously injured and had surgically repaired.
Meanwhile, Allen’s injury happened during a special teams drill when he collided with defensive back Kaiir Elam while playing gunner. Both receivers were forced to leave practice early after the injuries.
The timing of the injuries makes the updates more important for the Chiefs, as both receivers have been expected to contribute this season. Worthy is looking to build on his rookie year, when he finished with 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games.
At the same time, Allen had also started to make his presence felt during training camp, making several plays and becoming one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets in practice.
The Chiefs will keep an eye on both receivers, with the early signs pointing toward short-term injuries and a quick return for Worthy and Allen.
While Worthy and Allen’s injuries appear to be short-term concerns, Reid also shared an update on another young player dealing with an injury during training camp.
Andy Reid provides update on rookie CB Mansoor Delane’s injury status
Speaking after Monday's first padded practice of training camp, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also provided an update on rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury.
“Yeah, so he’s a tough nut,” Reid said. “A lot of guys probably wouldn’t go out there and play with what he’s got, but he wants to be out there; he wants to learn.”
Reid also explained why the Chiefs are not allowing Delane to take part in contact situations while he continues his recovery.
“But contact, we’ve got to keep him out of contact,” Reid added. “Right now, that’s important until that thing heals up… but you’ve got to just wait until it’s healed up.”
Delane has continued to attend practice while wearing a yellow jersey, which prevents him from taking contact during drills. Reid praised the rookie’s effort and said he wants to stay involved despite dealing with the injury.
The Chiefs will be careful with Delane’s recovery and wait until his shoulder is fully healed before bringing him back into contact, keeping his return on track for training camp.
