The Kansas City Chiefs will find themselves monitoring a busy NFL trade as the league approaches the June 1 roster and salary-cap deadline.

During an appearance on the Locked on Chiefs podcast, NFL analysts Ryan Tracy and Chris Clark discussed how June 1 is an important date for the Chiefs.

"Tomorrow is a big day in terms of trades, releases, things that you can do after June 1st that affect bottom lines," Tracy said June 1. "We're going to start to hear rumor, I'm pretty sure. And I think we will see some players get their walking papers."

The Chiefs are projected to go for the Chicago Bears' tight end, Cole Kmet. According to ESPN's Ben Solak, KC could offer its 2027 third-round pick for Kmet and 2027 fifth-round pick.

"As the Chiefs commit to a better rushing attack, they need skill position players who can block. Kmet can reconnect with coordinator Eric Bieniemy and adds a much-needed dimension as a traditional Y tight end," Solak wrote.

Apart from that, Solak also had the Chiefs in one of the four hypothetical trade offers for the Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux. And for Thibodeaux, the Chiefs would have to give up their 2027 fourth-round pick.

"The Chiefs do have an extra third-rounder next year as a result of the Trent McDuffie trade, but I don't think the Giants will be able to wrench a Day 2 pick from anyone for Thibodeaux, who has been only a rotational player to this point in his career," Solak noted.

Apart from these trade speculations, there is another spot the Chiefs have to worry about.

Rashee Rice Situation Limits Kansas City's Options Ahead of the Trade

One player Clark doesn't expect to be involved in any potential trade discussions is wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Rice is currently serving a j*** sentence and recovering from knee surgery, which created uncertainty around his availability for the Chiefs.

According to Clark, Rice's current situation will make it difficult for another team to complete a deal.

“They'd have to waive the physical. I don't think any team's going to be willing to waive the physical when they can't even see him,” Clark explained.

Clark also suggested that Rice's rehabilitation remains the biggest concern while he is away from team facilities.

“The big key is keeping the wound clean, making sure you're getting a little bit of flexibility and don't let anything adverse happen,” Clark said.

Kansas City enters the 2026 season looking to remain among the AFC's top contenders. While the Chiefs are not expected to make any big moves once the trade window opens.
