Bad News for Tyreek Hill As Chiefs Meet With Top WR Prospect at 2026 NFL Combine

Feb 28, 2026, 11:30 AM CUT

The Kansas City Chiefs are wasting no time at the NFL combine. They are officially connecting with prospects this week. It looks like Tyreek Hill could be replaced soon.

According to reports, among the possible candidates is the top-ranked wide receiver of the USC Trojans, Makai Lemon, whom they met on Friday. And it looks like he is not against the idea: “It would be cool,“I’ll be the best teammate I can be, [and show] the type of business I can bring, too. I feel like I could help them out.”

And when questioned about his place this year as a top wide receiver He confidently admitted, “Yeah, definitely, That’s the type of mentality you got to have. Anywhere you go, you got to think you’re the best.”

Lemon has been explosive and a central part of the team's offence. His defense also has an uncanny resemblance to Tyreek Hill. His "football IQ” boasts a career high of 1,156 receiving yards with 11 touchdowns and 79 receptions.

And teaming up with a wide receiver such as Xavier Worthy could make the Chiefs unstoppable.

And if speculation of QB Patrick Mahomes coming back from his injury is proved right, the Chiefs would want someone who can convert catches into long touchdowns and support him. Lemon might be the one.

Now the only question is, will Lemon be able to match Hill's big-play ability level in the Chiefs, or will Hill's homecoming be a hindrance?

What Kept Tyreek Hill away from the Chiefs

After the release from the Miami Dolphins, Tyreek Hill's coming back to the Chiefs has a higher probability. It seemed like he had every intention of coming back 'home'. Yet, the Chiefs never made any official statement to bring him back. His stellar 11,000 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns in 139 games also did not hasten their move.

And finally, Andy Reid put a full stop on speculation: "I don't even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything. I'm sure he's working hard on that part of it and trying to get that all straightened out. Listen, we talk about everything. There's nothing happening there, but we know that he's out there and working hard, trying to get himself back to where he can play, period."

So it seems like, for now, the dust is settled. As Hill recovers from his surgery, the chances of him being back with the Chiefs are slim, for now!
