Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid has provided an update on Patrick Mahomes' recovery. While he confirmed the star quarterback is putting in long hours, his comments left the door open on a timeline for his return to the field.

According to NFL Senior National Columnist Judy Battista, when asked about Mahomes’ ACL and LCL tear recovery, Reid revealed that Mahomes' progress was evident, with him spending hours in the building every day. 

“He's doing great. He spends a ton of time in the building. ... He's in there for seven hours a day. It's showing, the progress,” Reid said, according to Starcade Media's X post.

Recently, Patrick Mahomes posted a clip of himself, enjoying being back on the training grounds, and passing the ball around.

Before the ACL setback, his last major injury was turf toe he battled through in Super Bowl LIV, but this time it is different: a long-term absence and the first real stretch where he has been forced to stay away.

So the question obviously arises about his timeline. But unfortunately, Reid didn't give a concrete idea.

“Now, to tell you a timeline? I mean, I know what he's striving for. We'll just see where it goes from there,” the head coach further said.

However, it seems the Chiefs do have a plan for if Mahomes doesn’t start games early this season. 

“Well, we snuck out and got a good quarterback to back him up. So, if he doesn't, you know, if he's not able to make it for the beginning of the season, then we know we've got a legitimate backup there that can go win games for us.” Reid stated.

During the offseason, the Chiefs traded a 2027 sixth-round pick to acquire QB Justin Fields.

Some NFL analysts, including Sterling Holmes and Joshua Brisco, believe a lack of consistent coaching and offensive line support has prevented Fields from reaching his full potential.

That being said, the Chiefs have added many other options to their roster, too, including a Super Bowl MVP, which Reid also recently spoke about.

Judy Battista also asked the Kansas City Chiefs’ HC Andy Reid about the signing of RB Kenneth Walker III.

“He's a good football player, and it won't change. He's not gonna change coming to us. He's still going to be a good football player. As long as he stays healthy and moves forward, good things can happen for you,” Reid said.

The Super Bowl LX MVP, Walker, dominated against the New England Patriots with 27 carries for 135 rushing yards and 2 receptions for 26 receiving yards.

And the Chiefs got good offensive linemen, which Reid considers a plus for Walker and the team’s run game.

Reid also discussed the trade of Trent McDuffie.

“You've got to stay flexible, and then you've got to put yourself in a position where you can replenish that,” the head coach said.

All in all, the Chiefs have been at work, adding depth to the squad this offseason. With Travis Kelce's return, it would mean a lot for the franchise if they could have Mahomes back by Week 1.
