It isn't a Kansas City Chiefs training camp without one of head coach Andy Reid's signature jokes. When TE Travis Kelce reported in excellent shape for the start of training camp, the veteran coach couldn't resist linking it to the tight end's recent wedding with Taylor Swift.

Speaking after the team's Day One of the Chiefs Training Camp on July 29, Reid playfully suggested the offseason festivities may have helped Kelce stay in shape.

"Yeah, it looked very good, yeah. He stayed in shape and did a lot of dancing at the wedding," Reid told reporters and laughed.

Reid had firsthand knowledge of Kelce's celebration. Having attended the wedding with his wife, Tammy, the Chiefs coach jokingly credited the tight end's dance moves for helping him report to camp in such impressive shape, turning his firsthand experience into one of training camp's funniest moments.

The lighthearted remark became one of the early highlights of Kansas City's opening day of camp before Reid shifted to a more serious assessment of Kelce's readiness for the season. He also praised the player's work ethic and drive to be on the field.

"He's a great leader, and he works so hard, and he wants to be in there," Reid added in the 29th July press conference of the Chiefs (YouTube).

With that, the team has another reason to remain positive about its bounce-back hopes following a lacklustre 6-11 season.

The campaign took a major hit after star QB Patrick Mahomes suffered season-ending ACL and LCL injuries.

Now, with a healthy franchise quarterback back on the field, the Kelce-Mahomes duo will be central to the Chiefs' playoff hopes.

Andy Reid's joke may have sparked laughter, but Kelce's offseason performance is no comic relief. And Reid wouldn't intend it to be taken that way either.

“For a young guy to look at that, it’s hard for them to make an excuse to take a rep off," Reid remarked on the tight end's effect on the rookies in the same press conference.

Even as Kelce enters year 14, his recent practice clip, shared by Sports Radio 810 on X, still stopped the NFL world in its tracks, showcasing his explosiveness and fluidity.

By the numbers, the three-time Super Bowl champion recorded 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns across 16 games last season.

Moreover, Kelce has consistently delivered across the board as Mahomes' most reliable target, and Ayomide Adeduyite of Athlon Sports has pointed to the duo as the foundation behind one of the NFL's most productive offensive units.
