Tight end Travis Kelce arrived at Chiefs training camp in good shape, and head coach Andy Reid had a funny reason behind it.

Reid joked that Kelce’s wedding dancing helped him stay active during the offseason and was ready for Chiefs training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.

“He looked pretty good. He stayed in shape; he did a lot of dancing at his wedding,” Reid said of Kelce in a Chiefs press conference at training camp on July 29.

Reid attended the July 3 wedding himself, so the coach had a firsthand look at the dancing he jokingly credited for keeping Kelce in shape at the Chiefs press conference. The lighthearted comment also came as Kelce returned for his 14th NFL season with an important role still waiting for him in Kansas City.

However, Kelce’s return is important for the Chiefs because he remains one of Patrick Mahomes’ top targets. In the 2025 regular season, he recorded 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games.

During the Chiefs’ first full-squad practice on July 29, Kelce offered an early glimpse of his familiar connection with QB Patrick Mahomes. In a 7-on-7 drill, he made a contested fingertip catch on a Mahomes pass, producing one of the highlights of the opening practice.

Reid also spoke about Kelce helping younger players, saying the veteran tight end continues to set the standard with his work ethic even in his 14th NFL season.

For Kansas City, Kelce arriving ready to work matters far more than Reid's joke suggests. He remains one of Mahomes' most trusted targets after recording 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns across 17 games last season.

Reid's dancing joke wasn't his only lighthearted comment about Kelce's wedding this month. The Chiefs head coach also revealed the memorable marriage advice Adam Sandler gave Kelce and Taylor Swift during the ceremony.

Andy Reid revealed the simple marriage advice that Adam Sandler, the comedian who officiated their wedding, gave Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift during the ceremony.

“Adam Sandler conducted the service there, and he told them, ‘Keep k******,’” Reid said, per Krysyan Edler of The Deseret News. “So, in its simplest form. That’s a good thing.”

Sandler previously praised Kelce, calling him a kind and funny person. He also spoke highly of Swift, saying she has always been warm and nice to his family.

Reid agreed with Sandler's simple advice, noting that showing affection regularly can help couples work through problems. Weeks later, the Chiefs coach was back talking about Kelce for a very different reason, this time joking that all that wedding dancing may have doubled as offseason conditioning.
