Head coach Andy Reid knows the Kansas City Chiefs want to win another Super Bowl. But once the season gets going, he would rather keep the focus on the work in front of the team.

While speaking with former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett on the “Coach2Coach” podcast, Reid explained how he looks at the people he brings into his organization and what their daily work tells him.

“I’m going to find out which guys are willing to pay it right here to get that, and then can do it day after day after day after day,” Head coach Andy Reid said on August 26. “Let’s see. That tells me a story, and it’s pretty accurate.”

Reid enters his 14th season in Kansas City and has 307 career wins, including the postseason. His Chiefs tenure includes three Super Bowl championships and five appearances from 2019 through 2024.

“Everybody’s goal is to win the Super Bowl in this league. I mean, everybody’s sitting there undefeated at the beginning, and so that’s the last time I really talk about the Super Bowl," Reid said on the Coach2Coach podcast on August 26.

A Covers.com survey of 5,022 NFL fans found that 14.58 percent would most want Reid as their team's head coach entering the 2026 season.

Kansas City will close the preseason against Seattle on Friday, with Patrick Mahomes sitting out as he continues his recovery from left knee surgery. Rookie Garrett Nussmeier will start at quarterback, according to Heavy.

While Reid’s approach centers on what players bring every day, he now faces the difficult task of deciding which players will remain in Kansas City.

What’s next for the Chiefs roster?

The Kansas City Chiefs finished the preseason with a 9-9 tie against the Seattle Seahawks, but the result quickly gave way to one of the toughest parts of the NFL calendar: roster cuts.

With Kansas City needing to reduce its roster from 90 players to 53 by Sunday, Aug. 30, Andy Reid reflected on the work his players had put in throughout camp.

“And these guys have busted their tail through the hot, humid weather at training camp, and sleeping in a dorm for you, and then coming out and playing in these preseason games, and we appreciate it as a coaching staff and organization,” Andy Reid said, according to Chiefs Wire.

Reid said the Chiefs will support the players as the decisions are made, with general manager Brett Veach and his staff facing some difficult choices.

“These guys, I thought this group challenged each other and really made some decisions here. They’re going to be tough for Brett (Veach) and his guys to make as we go in the next couple of days here,” Reid added.

For players who don't make Kansas City’s roster, Reid said their preseason work can still help them find another opportunity, according to Chiefs Wire.

The Chiefs' final decisions will determine which players remain with the team heading into the regular season.
