Despite the Kansas City Chiefs' disappointing 2025 campaign, the Chiefs' head coach Andy Reid continues to command league-wide respect, earning a spot among the NFL's top five head coaches in the latest rankings.

In a poll of NFL experts conducted by CBS Sports, Reid was ranked No. 4 as he enters his 14th season with the Chiefs in 2026.

“Reid came in eighth in CBS Sports' 20 best NFL coaches of all time, so how is he "only" fourth among the active coaches?”  Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports wrote in his article. “Well, it's a "What have you done for me lately?" sort of business, and Reid is coming off a 6-11 season in which Patrick Mahomes and company looked simply ordinary."

Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports noted in his article that Reid's ranking reflects his record of leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl appearance in the last three years, despite the team's average offense.

The Chiefs had their first losing season in 13 years under Reid in 2025, finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Pereles pointed to Chiefs offensive struggles, which also involved injuries to key players like quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running back Isiah Pacheco, as a key reason for limiting the team's explosiveness.

“This will be a big year for Reid,”  Pereles wrote. “Another down offensive year would be a tough look and lead to more questions. Overall, though, it's hard to question the three Lombardi Trophies, 279 wins, and .640 winning percentage Reid has accrued."

Pereles noted that Reid has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles (2020, 2023, and 2024), but their chance to make a historic three-peat ended with a disappointing campaign last season.

With Mahomes working his way back from the season-ending ACL injury and the roster undergoing significant changes, the 2026 season could determine whether Reid can guide the Chiefs back into Super Bowl contention.

NFL coach believes Andy Reid's offense has become too predictable

While CBS Sports ranked Reid among the top five, Ted Nguyen of The Athletic ranked the Chiefs HC at No.6, a drop from his previous year's No.4 ranking, mainly due to his inconsistent offense.

“A couple of years ago for sure, he was top five to me," an NFC defensive coordinator said, according to Ted Nguyen of The Athletic. In the past, like, year or two, I think it’s cooled down significantly… I just think that it got a little predictable because they had that carousel of personnel there too."

Nguyen believes that since trading wide receiver Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs have struggled to recapture their explosive offense, as Reid has not fully adjusted to how defenses approach Mahomes.

However, Nguyen believes that with the addition of running back Kenneth Walker and the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, the Chiefs could evolve offensively in the 2026 season, allowing Reid's system to thrive again.
